Crimson Air. The origin of the True Ancestors. Little is known except for the fact that it was an existence on the moon. Here's a synopsis of the 1st chapter of the story book that came with the Japanese Prologue DVD of the anime: A very long time ago, Earth was worried about a new life form born on her planet. Hearing her voice, the King of the Moon came down and offered his help. He came down to earth, and using him as a model, Earth created the King of the earth. However, the King could be never made, and these Moon People had a terrible flaw. They ate the living beings on earth. Earth didn't know that the King of the Moon just wanted a new world in place of his kingdom where there's nothing left anymore.

The Crimson Moon was seen as an enemy by both the Earth and the human beings. Foreseeing that his end is near, he tried to make a successor. Altrouge Brunestud and the Twenty Seven Dead Apostles were those attempts. Soon without a success, Crimson Moon was destroyed by Zelretch, just like he feared. At that time, he left a Reality Marble which allows himself to appear within the True Ancestors. It was after his death that Arcueid, the perfect successor was born. That's how Arcueid has her deep alternate ego. The Crimson Moon only appeared within her two times so far. In the Crimson Moon scenario in Kagetsu Toya, and in Melty Blood when she made the red moon appear. aka Princess Arcueid. The Evil Arcueid though, is a pissed off Arcueid and not the Crimson Moon.
